You Can Close Your Eyes - Lynn Asher

An artist of any selected genre has many obstacles when climbing the rungs on the ladder of success but when amidst the folklore of San Francisco, extremely gifted becomes paramount. Enter Lynn Asher, the bay area chanteuse who sings as she looks, elegant, charming, blessed with the stage charisma of glory past but looks for the perpetuation rather than a link to yesteryear. Lynn is an anomaly, surrounded by a phalanx of contemporaries. Conquering The Ghosts of Avalon is in itself a struggle as the denizens of the demographic Valhalla are still immersed in The Golden Age rather than pundits of the few who can feasibly restore the city back to the Bohemian way of life when music was the elixir of life, an escape from the doldrums of The Mainstream. To witness the uncanny ability of Lynn seems to be the segue of the day, a chance to restore the affiance that permeated the streets of Haight Ashbury during the glory years when legacies were constructed and perpetuated and now the time has come to bring that unification back from the ashes of Hippiedom & the music that matters.

The ostentatious collection of tunes runs the gamut from traditional rock n' roll to the more serene ballads of mountain songs, the lyrics of the heart. An old adage comes to mind when thinking of her prodigious vocal range and the naivete' fans of music who know little about her outside the parameters of San Francisco. To see her is the carpe diem in the city by the bay, the wistful charm of one of the chosen few who can bring back the power of music that once permeated the streets surrounding Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park, living proof that it is indeed "The singer not the song" that at times can make the difference. It's a tedious, tenuous effort to ascend the rungs in a ladder of success but with the face of an angel, the ability to manifest the reverence of the past with the present and the vision of what could still be, I paraphrase an old song that fits the motif of her efforts as we seem to be awaiting her rise to prominence, "In Between Dances". The gifts are more than an uncanny ability to sing a variety of songs, it's the vibrance of her mannerisms, genetics and ability to defray the decadence of most current music, the pagan syncopated rhythm that is a source of music but a far cry from the perception of music that matters.

The litany of women who "rocked' and made San Francisco the bastion of sixties psychedelia in lengthy and comparisons abound but that's unfair to both entities. Lynn is more than a singer with a flair for "cover" songs and the essential difference between her and aging icons of an era gone by is obviously chronological. In a life augmented with wasted Degrees from an accredited college, I've seen them all & she need not be compared to any. As Lynn motors through her musical sojourn, footsteps are being noted by those who document the special people in the pantheons of time. These are the prints that will inevitably become an addition to The Ghosts of Avalon, the mystique and mayhem of bare feet, flaxen hair and the ubiquitous attitudes now being restored to their rightful place in the city known for their pungent fragrances amidst those who hover in the park and the regality of The San Francisco Sound. The soulful reverie Lynn projects on a weekly basis can be viewed often in the San Francisco area so when time allows, perhaps a chance to see a face that could launch the proverbial thousand ships is on your horizon. This isn't the antiquated "One trick pony" who relies on a single effort but a diverse, gifted woman who captivates the crowd and broadens the smile. It doesn't get better than that and beauty has distinct advantages. Just a passing thought on a brisk day in horse country
