JEFFERSON STARSHIP & GALACTIC REUNION 2005

It seems somewhat humorous reflecting on the euphoria of the baby boomers who congregated to watch the halftime of the 39th Super Bowl and the ageless performance of James Paul McCartney. We cling to the heroes of our youth in a God like fashion and for those who grew to adulthood during the fury and confusion of the sixties, i.e., The Counter Culture, The Peter Pan Syndrome seemed to engulf most of us. After the death of legendary drummer Spencer Dryden (Jefferson Airplane, New Riders Of The Purple Sage & The Dinasaurs) last month, the harsh reality of our own mortality and the diminishing number of those we worshiped during the glory days of The Haight Ashbury has become all to obvious. Amidst this cloak of doom an idea has surfaced from the innovative minds of Paul Kantner, Marty Balin and Michael Gaiman. In conjunction with Jefferson Starship with Hall Of Fame members Kantner & Balin, additional icons of the day have been added for 2005 tours in the United States & Europe. Inclusive of the usual suspects in Jefferson Starship, i.e., Slick Aguilar, Chris Smith, Prairie Prince & Diana Mangano, Hall Of Fame member Tom Constanten (Grateful Dead), david Frieberg, legendary bass player and singer with Quicksilver Messenger Service and Jefferson Starship, Darby Gould, brilliant, provocative vocalist often used with the band, Jack Traylor, perhaps Pete Sears and various appearances by other noted musicians and personalities of the era. These are the remnants of the golden years of psychedelia, the personification of antiestablishment and those who were instrumental in making music the universal solvent of peace. Jefferson Airplane & Quicksilver messenger Service were 40% of the big five seminal bands of the sixties which would also include The Grateful Dead, The Charlatans and Big Brother & The Holding Company.

At times it seems to be a nostalgic venture but as music digresses to the classic tunes that seem to transcend regardless of chronological age of the fans, perhaps it is a chance to rise from the ashes of yesteryear and along the way, verify why these minstrels of mayhem are considered rock n' roll royalty and will forever be enshrined in the echelons of musical immortality and those responsibility for the growth of the genre.
