California Dreamin'

Aspirations of grandeur in the world of music have mirrored both young and old for hundreds of years. Living in a demographic area that is steeped in folklore from venues like Winterland, The Family Dog & The Fillmore Auditorium, Fillmore West & icons that permeated this musical wasteland so long ago make cultural acceptance obtuse in regards to media sensationalism and acceptance by those who denythe comtemporary power of selected musicians and subsequent music. At times, the abyss of glory past and the ghosts of noted luminaties tht defined The Counter Culture are essentially the retardant that makes growth of chosen bands hindered by the denizens and pundits of The Golden Age who are more concerned about where they've been rather than accepting the vision of where we are going. Having made that sojourn from impact bands and hallowed venues of five sets of breakfast @ The Fillmore or Winterland. Memories are a wonderful concept but best to make neoteric moments of joy than to conjure thoughts of 45 years ago. The Danny Click Band, Lansdale Station & Lynn Asher have sparked the resurgence and San Francisco as teh Valhalla of music that matter from the abyss of todays's banality on radio and video.

Once upon a time in the west, few women could become the integral part of any band but that would change rapidly with Janice Lyn Joplin, Grace Waing Slick, Tracy Nelson, Annie Sampson, Lydia Pense and my friend Nancy Nevins of Sweetware fame. When we fast forward to the more docile demographics of today in San Francisco, the provocative, charismatic mante has been passed on to Tracy Blackman, Lauren Murphy & Lynn Asher. The bravado of rock n' roll hedonism and stage
antics that once were the mirrored images of sixties sirens is the tinge more subtle now but the stage charisma remains alive and well within these three divas and their subsequent bands and the tireless efforts as contemporary performers. The barometer that once defined success where album/CD sales but that's not that universal guideline for today's acceptance. Exposure & live performance is not the chosen path but the only road as all climb the rungs of the universal ladder of success. Within the parameters of a horrid economy, Judge, lauren & their band, Danny Click & his subtle dexterity along with Don Bassey and melodic bass runs and band & Lynn who sings as she looks, are the chosen ones that can be advantageous in making the bay overcome the fall from grace & mediocrity. The "magic" that once filled the air along the legendary streets of Haight Ashbury is alive & well but these gifted souls are but the harbingers of escape, they touch the heart of broaden the smile and the "magic" is in all of us. Ebullience exudes from all while viewing any chosen live performance and those who know about those events extoll opinions far and wide. When thinking of all within the framework of 2100 shows in my lifetime, who could say "no" to Lauren, Tracy or Lynn? So, San Francisco, useless rhetoric about, "Wish I had gone", or I've forgotten the date, are excuses, off your ass on your feet, let the shows begin For a few dollars, the nights become priceless and you leave feeling as if you owe money. Is there be a better way?, besides, beaty has distinct advantages.
